My name is Shin Goda and welcome to my website!

I am a financial consultant with Equitable Advisors helping individuals and corporations make deep financial insights and smart decisions in assisting especially for Japanese professionals living or working in the US.

I received my bachelor's degree in economics from Keio University in Tokyo when Saigon fell in Vietnam War in April 1975. Since then my career had spanned two countries from Tokyo to New York over wide variety of roles and responsibilities.

My first job was security broker sales for a Japanese security firm then I became private secretary of a politician. I returned to financial industry to make living for my family expecting a newborn baby as salesperson in an American bank's finance leasing division and stepping up in the career as sales manager in a French bank then an American bank in Tokyo. New career opportunity brought my family to New York to take the role to manage Japanese corporates' clients in a British financial information vendor in January 1989 coincidentally when Emperor Hirohito passed away and Showa period was closed. Fire and hire continued; then I got a job in an American telecommunication company after getting Green card to become East Coast #1 sales, but the company went bankrupt.

Finally, I've been settled in what is now Equitable Advisors with US citizenship since October 2002 after having painful experience of the dot-com bubble burst in 2000-2001. I lost almost all my money in investing speculative stocks by margin trading while I'd been betting the markets fortunately quite long time in Tokyo and NY without basic knowledge about tax and financial planning. But this experience made me ashamed and led me to go for the new career as a financial advisor advising my clients at least to say that "Don't do such the stupid thing like I did". This broad experience of up-and-down has fostered my practical approach in how I offer financial products and planning services to my clients in order to execute various clients' goals in the long run.

My policy has always been "to be honest and to do my very best". In addition to my 19 years as a financial consultant with Life/Health Insurance license and Investment Advisor/Security Broker license, I regularly attend industry training and certification program including Retirement Planning Specialist to stay current and informed in this ever-changing, complex and demanding field. In 2010 I founded New York Financial Dojo which is a networking seminar for businesspeople with various guest speakers spoken in Japanese being held over 120 times and to Mr. Hirota Shihan-dai took it over in June 2021 to upgrade the contents by using webinar.

As I have done with all my clients, I would like to first spend the time to truly get to know you so that we can pin down your financial goals and objectives together. I'll bring in the specialists from my wide professional network so that we can map out a detailed strategy to help you reach those goals. And I can finally make recommendations to help you execute your investment strategy as well as to seek the most appropriate insurance products and planning. Now I focus on small and medium sized corporations to work together for group health insurance, employee benefit plans, group retirement plans including 401k or company-owned life insurance by coordinating team works with internal partners or third-party vendors. Also, I keep dedicated supports to existing clients who need help and assistance in this complicated world of quickly changing technologies and markets.

I like to keep physically and mentally fit so that I can pursue my dream: Happy retirement without the financial concerns; not scarce but not excessive money. On my down time I play golf, do gardening, read books and spend time with my beautiful wife Emi and our adorable dog Pochi in the small house in New Jersey.
